Archway Staff

"The project is staffed by an enthusiastic group of people who manage to maintain a unique family atmosphere at Archway. It is not uncommon for young people who live locally to just pop into the project for an informal chat or to discuss problems they may have in their day to day lives. We are dedicated to providing an uplifting and challenging experience for every young person who participates in one of our sessions."

Dave Newman

Hi,
My name is Dave, I am the project manager at Archway and started working here in November 1993. I have had an enjoyable ten years at the project. My job is to make sure that the everything is on track and to see that the project runs smoothly. I have overall responsibility for the project and its funding requirements, and report to the management committee.

I like working at Archway because it is one of the best youth projects in London. The fact that we are a small charity means that we are able to make changes and implement new projects to benefit our young people as and when required.

Mick Smidmore

Hello,
My name is Mick, I am the project coordinator at Archway. I have been working in youth motor projects for nine years and have been at Archway since April 2002. My job involves workshop organisation and ensuring the day to day running of the project goes smoothly. I am also responsible for the development of accredited and other training programmes.

I work directly with young people at the project and often go on riding trips with the various groups so that I can impress them with my immense riding talent (yeah right !!).

I enjoy the buzz of working at Archway because it is a challenging environment, every day offers something different and hopefully we are able to make a difference in the lives of the young people who attend.

Penny Watts

Hello,
My name is Penny, I am the youth development networker and I started working at Archway in November 2002, a lot of my time is taken up with the administration of outputs for various projects we run. I also order equipment and book training courses for Archway staff.
My job requires me to set up various data base systems to capture information in the different formats required by our funders. I also work with a junior group on Tuesday evenings.

I like working at this project because it is an organisation that affects young peoples lives. The staff are very friendly and always willing to help people out.

Carole Payne

I also work on two of our groups the juniors and a group of young people from Abbey Wood School following a basic mechanical course, this also includes taking the groups on riding trips and going on our residential trip to Wales.

The best thing about working at the Archway is, I have learnt to ride a motor bike become a basic ACU coach and have a great time working with all the young people and staff at the project.

Will Page

Hi,
I am Will and I have been working at Archway since 1997. I am a project worker and my job involves working with young people. I like working with young people, I like fixing and riding motorbikes so this is an ideal job for me. I work many different nights at Archway, I drive the van and take part in various riding trips including our summer camp to Tommy's farm in Wales.

I like working here because I have been involved with motorbikes since I was young and used to attend this project when I was a teenager. I like working with young people and enjoy teaching them.

Matt Attwater

Hi,
My name is Matt, I am a project worker at Archway and have been working here full time for about a year and a half. I work with young people from all age groups and help them to get a better understanding of fixing and riding motorbikes. I drive the minibus and setup camp for our Wales trip in the summer.
When we take the young people out on riding trips I have to make sure that they ride safely and have the necessary riding and safety equipment i.e. boots, goggles, gloves etc.

I like working here because I have been attending the Archway since I was fifteen. The thought of working with engines and riding motorbikes for a living is like my dream job.

Robert Dyer

Hi,
I am Robert, my job at Archway involves business development of new services to make the project self sustaining in the future. I have been working here since April 2003. Two of the services we are currently working on are the Community Workshop and the Mobile Trailer Unit. I have to communicate with a wide range of organisations and build up partnerships in order to make our future plans a reality. Part of my job involves developing this website in order to make more people aware of the services we provide.

I like working at Archway because I get to work with young people who are at risk of being excluded by the education and justice system. I have grown up in this area and believe that this project provides a useful service for young people who live locally.
