Future Projects

The Archway Project has grown from a part time three day a week project into a full time six day a week scheme. There is currently a waiting list of up to six months for some of our sessions. For this reason we are now seeking other ways of expanding our range of services. This would allow us to reach more people within the Greenwich and Bexley area.

At Archway we are actively seeking to form partnerships with other like-minded organisations that are interested in developing services for young people. We currently work with a wide range of groups, local boroughs and organisations and are looking to expand this group as we develop new services.

Brief details of a some of our future projects are included below:

Mobile Workshop

The mobile workshop will operate in the Greenwich and Bexley area and will incorporate a motorcycle workshop for practical skills training and a classroom for theory and desk based sessions. We aim to teach certified courses for young people interested in learning about motorcycle mechanics. This unit will provide a learning resource for schools, community groups, colleges and youth projects throughout Greenwich and Bexley. By use of this facility we would be able to reach a wider group of young people including those who are currently unwilling/unable to travel to Thamesmead.

Our current motorcycle project has a longstanding history of involving young people from the community who would otherwise be, excluded from the usual school activities, or at risk of becoming involved in crime. By use of the mobile facility we would have the ability to reach young people whose only other option for this type of project would be a wait of up to six months for one of our current programs. The mobile unit will enable us to include an additional eighty young people each week and provide the motorcycle learning experience in a location that they are comfortable with.

In addition to the sessions based in the mobile unit we would also incorporate an off-road riding trip as an end of term 'treat' for students. This would enable them to put into practise all the things they have learned throughout the course.

Community Motor Vehicle Workshop

.....................................

The Thamesmead based community workshop would provide facilities for local people to maintain their motor vehicles for a fraction of the cost charged by commercial garages. This workshop will empower local people by teaching them the skills to maintain and repair their own vehicles. Because it will be run as a not for profit enterprise, it will also reduce the cost involved in owning a car or motorbike. The benefit of this will be that more people will be able to consider vehicle ownership as a viable method of commuting to work or for recreation.

We aim to provide a fully equipped workshop with trained staff on hand to supervise and assist local people.
